I did not feel sick (the first time). If you go to OCB after noon on any day, there about a thousand senior citizens there. That's right...old people like buffets. And they're all very friendly and tell you which foods to avoid. The food varies from fresh vegetables (haha) to fried chicken, to calzones, to fish, to tacos, to salad, to pizza. Ok, well the salad kind of blows, but I don't think anyone is there for the salad. They don't even have cucumbers.
When you go in, they greet you at the door by asking you to pay. It's one price with a drink, and one price without. The without price includes a cup for water...if you're lucky they can locate the cups. Then they tell you the water is gross and that you should get a drink. I get a drink. They give you a slip that says how many drinks you paid for in your group and off you go to fend for yourself. They pretend that you have a server so they can guilt you into a tip, but no...you're on your own. That server is only there to make sure you're not stealing drinks. Seriously, the drink is probably the cheapest thing there and should just be included. It's the only ala carte item in the whole place. Everything else, including dessert is included. So you wander through dozens of people, find what you think looks the most delicious and the least deadly, and you get to eat. Pay no attention to the paramedics that just arrived and rushed in without paying.
My usual first plate. Corn or carrots. a single piece of fried chicken (I always go back for a second), a couple of squares of cornbread stuffing, mashed potatoes, and something else...depending what they have that day. Stay away from the pizza, it's terrible. Eat that...go back for seconds and/or dessert...make fun of a few people. Yeah, it's not terribly exciting, but for some reason, it's fun to go there in the same way it's fun to watch someone get stopped for speeding. Not all that interesting, but you have to slow down and check it out.
